Island Vacation

Well, it's true what they say... vacations are never long enough! *sigh* My recent sojourn to Providenciales Island (Turks and Caicos) in the Caribbean proved to be an enjoyable little getaway with my sister and one of her friends. It being the start of the "rainy season" the weather was not the perfect-clear-blue-skies-and-flat-crystal-waters of the postcards! Of course it was a heck of a lot warmer than the Tdot, so we certainly got some sun! We also made some new friends, which is always good, and gives us more of a reason to go back.

The resident ex-pat who showed us around was quick to point out, as we three women clambered into his Jeep, that the island's police are very strict about wearing your seatbelt. Turns out, however, that these same police don't care much whether you drink and drive. Further, there are NO vision test requirements to get a license and while traffic is set up to drive on the left hand side of the road (in the British style) it is really irrelevant whether your car is right or left-hand drive... or whether it is truly roadworthy; if it's got 4 wheels and can move, you can drive it!!

Needless to say, putting a seatbelt on seemed like the best idea all around!
