Stop and Ask for Directions
Contrary to the title, you may expect this to be a piece about boys and how they are unable to make themselves stop and ask for directions despite all indications that they are lost. Well, it's not... It's about this woman I saw today on my drive in to work....
For starters, the car ahead of me had to honk at this woman, who was in front of him, at two different traffic lights that had gone green while she just sat there, unmoving. It was a bit frustrating, though it was such a lovely day I was in no particular hurry to get into the office.
As we approached Yonge Street, a police officer had pulled over a car a couple of blocks ahead. His lights were on, and both the police car and the vehicle he'd stopped were parked along the side of the road. This is a relatively small side street we were on, only one lane each way, so not a ton of room. Certainly not enough to have cars double parked and still space for traffic to pass by.
As we come up on this scene, the woman pulls in behind the police car... I think this is a bit odd, but that maybe the cop was blocking the driveway she wanted or something. I barely give it a thought as both the driver ahead of me and myself, pass her and continue on by. I glance in her car on my way past and notice that she has a map in her hands. Aha, I think to myself, She WAS lost.... Not too sure why she stopped there though...Oh wait, I'm watching in my rearview mirror now, she's pulling up beside the police car just as the officer gets out, pad in hand, to write up the speeder/stop sign runner... and yes, while blocking all of the traffic coming up behind her, she's leaning across the front seat to talk to officer, apparently asking him for directions!!
That's all I was able to witness, since traffic for me was moving and I couldn't stop and watch. I don't know how long she took to make her request, how pissed off the traffic behind her got, how tempted the cop was to write her a ticket (for what, I don't know) or how upset the driver who was originally stopped was getting at being kept waiting longer than usual to get his ticket and carry on to work! Seriously though, would you stop an officer in the middle of whatever 'keeping the peace' task he was doing so you could ask him directions? And what makes you think a cop is going to know the answer anyway? There was a Tm Horton's coming up on her route... she'd certainly have been able to find someone in there who could help her.

Much ado...
So, I'm watching the news last night, and find out that there was apparently a big ruckus in NY over a comment some popular radio personality made about the Rutgers University Women's Basketball Team. Perhaps you've heard about this story...
Anyway, seems this guy, Imus, made a disparaging remark live on air and was subsequently suspended from work for 2 weeks. He has apologized and agrees he crossed the line with his comments. The news broadcast then went on to show excerpts from a press conference where the women of the Rutgers team, all apparently aspiring doctors, musicians and lawyers and got a chance to respond to the belittling remarks..
So, what exactly did he say that caused such a furor you ask? Well, I believe "nappy-headed ho's" were his words.
One woman's succint rebuttal: "Well, I would just like to ACKS him, if he met me, does he think I'm still a ho?"
Hmmm... jury's still out on that one...

Humaned vs. Unhumaned
So this post goes back to a couple months ago.. I just didn't get around to writing it up!
Anyway, I'm watching Canada AM one morning, as I do most mornings while getting ready for work, and I hear them talking to a woman about some space exploration and research project... I forget now what the subject was, and I could only hear it, not see it, since I was in the kitchen making coffee. In any event, the discussion goes along and the host asks the guest what she sees as the future of this project and whether manned versus unmanned spacecraft would be the way to go. The woman replies with "Well, I think you mean humaned versus unhumaned spacecraft, and for that I think....." AAAAAGGGHHH !! I don't even remember what she said after that! I mean OMG!! Humaned versus Unhumaned! Is she kidding? Are those even words??!! Geez, somebody hand her a dictionary or better yet give her a grammar lesson. There's this pronoun in the English language that's used when one does not wish to be gender specific or offend one's sensibilities. And the word "manned" is an actual adjective that means "Transporting, operated by, or performed by a human".
Please spare us all from women like this who think every word with the letters M-A-N in it must be neutered in some way!

Memory Lane
So, my sister called today and directed me to a web site where all the various graduating classes from our high school can post class directories, photos, new items, anything to keep in touch and stay current with those old school friends!
Since my 3 siblings and I attended the same high school and were only one year apart, it was great fun to read through some of the bios from a year or two after my graduating year. This was for both entertainment and curiosity and because there's only a couple listings in my year. Seems a volunteer administrator is needed to get things organized. Not that I don't have enough to keep me busy, but I'm considering stepping up and making a contribution.
Anyway, I just thought it was a really well designed web site and very creative. If you're looking to set up something for your high school (or university) graduating class, you should go check it out.... Have some fun with it! www.classreport.com

Handwriting Analysis
So I was looking at someone's signature the other day and thought "I wonder what having a signature like THAT says about their personality?". And, lo and behold, I found a web site that will tell you exactly that!
Try it out for yourself, and allow a good half hour of your time to prepare a sample of your handwriting and then use the online multiple choice guide to do your own analysis. They will provide a FREE personality profile based on your answers. Click here to access the site.
Here are a couple of excerpts from MY personality profile... and of couse I'm only sharing the ones I really agree with!! LOLThe subject has a signature that is larger than 77% of the population and as a result sees herself in a relative position of power and responsibility.
She is more confident than the average signer.
The subject has a strong need to succeed in all things she does. She hates to loose and will appear to be quite a strong competitor. The signature is written quite illegibly indicating some sense of superiority. Writers who scrawl their signature are saying that the reader of the document should know who they are, without having to actually be able to read the words. She is also conveying the impression that she is working at high speed under pressure, and this is all of her valuable time that she can spend on the issue.
~ I thought this one was pretty perceptive! Ha ha ha ~There are a few signs of aggression throughout the handwriting, which indicate a mildly aggressive personality.
As the writer has a high IQ, the chances are that aggression, when shown, will normally be expressed verbally, with sarcasm, caustic remarks and mockery.
When aggression is expressed indirectly, the subject will feel a need for revenge if slighted. She may harbour a grudge, while waiting for the appropriate moment to get her own back.
~ And THIS one, well, enough said.... ~
So go check it out... you might just be surprised at what little quirks of yours show up in your handwriting!

Blogging Along
Well, I must say, as a relative newbie to this whole blog thing, I am quite fascinated every time I log in here to find new tools and tips and ways to be creative with this space that I hadn't even know existed.
Take news feeds for example. While I've been aware of them for a long time, it's only been in the abstract... I figured there were some really "techie" people out there who just wanted to sit in front of their computer and read threads and threads of text-only news stories (rather than actually go outside, in the sunlight, and buy a paper and then hang out in a coffee shop, with strangers, to read it!)
As you can probably see from my Blogroll, I've added a whole slew of interesting feeds from different newspapers and web sites... Obviously this whole news feed thing has evolved since last I checked *grin*, though how anyone gets anything done [read: WORK] when there is such a vast content of information that can be set up to ping your desktop all day long is beyond me! Of course, I wasn't playing around in my blog all afternoon, no sireeee, I was working!

Spring is Around The Corner
So, Spring is here and the weather in the Tdot is slowly improving *sigh*. That means Beach Volleyball, biking, running (as long as it's not raining) and other fun outdoor sporting events.
It also means that there are more idiots out on the roads driving everything from cars, bikes and mopeds to motorcycles skateboards and rollerblades! And they all seem susceptible to some sort of Spring Fever that makes them forget every rule of the road ever written!!
